Something about Nan Goldin

I have never been able to explain why I was fascinated by photographer Nan Goldin. Her crude photographs always putted me in a strange ill-at-ease mood — yet I could not stop watching them over and over. I’ll always remember when, for the first time, I saw a picture of one of her friend masturbating. Dim light, strange exposure, and the bold centring emphasizing the nudity shocked me. Probably because it felt so true… I hope I’ll ever achieve this abilitie to catch real life moments, like she does.

ahhh how many times did I looked at her books at the school library… Nan Goldin’s photography is so powerful, and tells a lot about New York underground lifestyle of the 90’s. Love it.

Strangely enough, I didn’t ever really care about the subject of her photographys in itself. Be it transexuals, drug addicts, or simply photos of her friends, I find the same strenght in every picture. I must admit I miss the school library very much myself! That were good times…
