New motto.

Posted October 3rd, 2010 in Graphic Design & trends by Zélia

“Do not design to please anyone,

Do not design to fit any useless standards,

Do not design out of angst or tiredness,

Do not design only for money or fame or things that will fade away.

Design for it to be the best design you’ve ever seen on the field. ”

… is my new mantra I recall in every moment I feel lost facing a crappy “bad design moment”. You can also replace design by “Live”, which works well, somehow.

I hope you all had a great time lately.
Love & good kerning

MoonLounger

I have a soft spot for chairs. Low, upholstered chairs, with a distinctive 50’s look are, to me, somewhat of the most exquisite thing a house can hold. And then you tell me they make it in orange too? Damn. Marry me, Moonlounger!

“MoonLounger’ by Gerd Couckhuyt for Wildspirit

‘MoonLounger’ will be showcased at this year’s Interieur in Kortrijk from October 15th till 24th, Expo-hallen Kortrijk (B). Hall 4, Booth 450″ As seen on Daily Tonic.

Dowling Dunkan Bank Notes Redesign

Posted August 26th, 2010 in Graphic Design & trends by Zélia

You may have stumbled across the excellent dollar redesign by Dowling Duncan on DesignBoom this morning. Not only is this a very interesting design project, but the execution is fabulous: different sizes to help master the different bank notes, strong colors and bold graphical choices : it’s really how I’d wish I’d design bank notes myself. But strangely, I realized I never thought about redesigning bank notes before. Because to me, the old, dull colors, same size, strange old school design was the way it has to be. Like many objects of everyday, like toilet papers, pencils, administration letters, tax advices and all, I didn’t noticed how they were designed becaue, well, they were designed a non shocking way after all. What if all these were exceptionally designed, I wonder? Would the general level of designess increase? Would it even be possible? This sounds like an utopia, suddenly, where ugliness would take its toll like a rebellious act.

And what about you? What everyday object would you redesign if you had the opportunity?

AAITSKI !

Posted August 13th, 2010 in Just for fun by Zélia

I’ve been all over child stuff lately, with my dear and sweet friend Solène giving birth to an adorable baby boy. Mind you, I don’t usually put so much superlatives in a sentence, especially when talking about children, babies, and living things smaller than a dog but who don’t own enough hair to be cuddly. Anyway, let’s say that for once, I can find the idea of smaller clothes fun, especially since you can buy graphics you wouldn’t wear yourself.

So this morning, I was sent the link to AAITSKI!, a company screen-printing manually cute graphics for little design-inclined beings. (I’m totally using too many words in a row in an attempt to hide the fact I can’t think properly these days)

They classify their tees by “boys and girls”, “animals” and “vehicles” (for babiez, little brothaz and sistahz, brothaz and sistahz) – in their own words. It’s cute, fun, and they are extra-nice people. Enjoy!
